The Kennebec River is the most popular and most family friendly whitewater rafting trip that Maine has to offer. The Kennebec is a massive watershed fed by Moosehead Lake, Maine’s largest lake. Combine that with dam-controlled flows at Harris Station and you get the incredibly consistent and thrilling ride that is the Kennebec River Gorge! The 5,000 CFS (cubic feet per second) release that we get daily from early spring all the way through the fall, allows us tons of splashes throughout the season. As you make your way down the stairs and into the gorge, make sure to follow your guides instructions and work together with your fellow paddlers quickly, the class II rapid Taster is just around the bend. This is immediately followed Class III Rock Garden, Class IV Big Mama and don’t miss your photographer next to Whitewasher while you barrel through The Alleyway before you get your first break to regroup in Cathedral.
Surrounded by stunning and steep gorge walls all the way to this point, you can now take a minute to view it all before heading downstream again to your next big Class IV rapid, Magic Falls! After navigating through Magic, we’ll find out who’s brave enough to jump out of the raft in Swimmer’s Rapid, before making your way through the final rapids of the upper Kennebec, Dead Stream Rapid, Carry Brook Rapid, and the longest Black Brook Rapid. With all the big thrills behind you, now is your chance to get comfortable and relax on the lower half of the river where you can sit around and soak up the sun or cool off in the water on the float out.
